Sensational is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of hill Climbing on the Gold Coast

We are currently re building RideGC’s content. More climbing details and specifications are on the way, so stay tuned via “RGC Central” .  Video above is Peaks Challenge Gold Coast

The Gold Coast continues to surprise it’s cycling guests, with it’s very own brand of impressive landscape vistas to excite your animalistic cycling desires. Don’t take my word for it hop over to the “Robbie McEwan’s” sites and see what he has to say on this subject.

Robbie is one of Australia’s most impressive “Tour de France” champions winning multiple stages and the colours to match.

A brief overview …

Springbrook 5 – 7%

Tomewin 14 – 10%

Beechmont 5 – 7%

O’Reilly’s 5 – 10%

Mt Tamborine 10 – 20+ %

The Gold Coast has 6 popular climbs and 5 very significant challenging climbs – “Gold Coast Climb 5″ – (coming soon).

If you are new to cycling or the Gold Coast then a great starting point would be to have a crack at the Currumbin Valley – approx 75km return to Cavill Ave. Currumbin Valley is really a stunning rolling landscape experience and will start your legs in the right direction, there is no offical hills on this ride but it will challenge your legs if you keep your pace honest. This also covers the proposed TT section for the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games and is a stunning cycling canvas.

A question I see a lot is “Why can’t I climb up hills?”

3 simple to understand guidelines…

  1. You have to begin cycling up hills slowly
  2. Get yourself into a comfortable lower gear right from the start, as this will conserve your energy
  3. Ride up that damn hill more often…yip there is no getting around practice.
