WHAT DO YOU ALLL THINK? - CAN ANYONE ENLIGHTEN US?
We have had a lot of messages and emails over the past few weeks ...2 Events on the same day
CONDEV GC100 has moved its event date 3 times in 3 years
Ride of Duty (formerly Tour of Duty ) is on the same weekend every year, for what seems to be obvious reasoning.
What's the Go?
Cheers Steve

GC100Hey guys. LET ME ENLIGHTEN YOU! I am the organiser of the Gc100. Disappointed to say the least that Steve has elected to vent here when he was part of the organisation for the Gc100 two years ago and is no longer. We did move dates in 2017 to avoid the full calendar. We clashed with the Great Brissy Bike Ride last year so bought it back a couple of weeks to avoid that. Obviously we are keen not to clash but the Comm Games and Easter this year left us with little choice as to dates. If we had known of the Tour ride date early enough we would have avoided that as well, and already plan to do so in 2019. We scoured the ride calendars for suitable dates after last year’s ride and the Tour ride was not noted on any of them nor on the Bicycle Qld Event Calendar. We are now aware of the date of the Tour (the Sunday before Anzac Day) and will do what we can to avoid clashes such as this in the future. From our perspective it is about ensuring the cycling community is given all of the options available..and that you get to ride in every event you choose and NOT have to be limited by date restrictions and clashes.

Numbers were down significantly for the Ride Of Duty this year ... a very disrespectful move by the organisers of the GC 100, which incidentally I would have done if it was on another weekend. Now I won’t ever be doing or promoting the GC100 😡

Have done both. Would not bother doing GC 100 and would go tour for duty every time out of respect to the vets. It's also a better ride.

Time to draw a line on this and move on. I think the GC100 crew copped enough flak when the clash became known that hopefully they've learnt something and won't do it again. Time will tell. They may not have been consistent with dates but at least they have managed to be consistent with the name GC100😜. The Tour For/ Tour Of/ Ride Of Duty has been an interesting evolution. Hopefully they've got that sorted now

Its a shame the organisers of the GC100 showed no respect to the Ride of Duty and the purpose behind it by putting their ride on the same day! Their excuse when asked why: We are sure you will appreciate that the date limitations on us are pretty severe these days. We have the Comm Games and Easter just before and the Great Bris Bike Ride just after. We try and make it a weekend where we do not clash but this year its just not possible. Hope the 2019 date works better for you...GC100 Team

Not sure how the Savage Family manage to pull off such a fantastic Cycling Event -A Warm, Respectful and Friendly experience by bike. The benefactor is the Small RSL - North Burleigh Sub Branch, but it was very obvious that the beneficiaries were also the cyclists...what a great course crossing through and over the Comm games course that we have just enjoyed watching the pro cyclists duke it out on. It was great to see so many local Group Rides enter and add to the colour and ambience
